Ansonia Man Convicted Of Federal Drug Charge

NEW HAVEN – A jury found a 28-year-old Ansonia man guilty of a drug trafficking charge, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.

Jevaughn Watson was found guilty Monday of conspiracy to distribute, and to possess with intent to distribute marijuana, a crime that carries a maximum term of imprisonment of five years.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 12.

According to federal prosecutors, Watson was part of a drug-dealing organization headed by Tajh Wiley, 26, of Norwalk.

Watson, Wiley, and six others were arrested in June 2021.

Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) had wiretaps going on Wiley’s cellular communications, which provided evidence of Watson’s involvement, according to court filings.

The DEA and federal prosecutors alleged Watson was involved in the distribution of cocaine and marijuana, and, on May 7, 2021, received 300 grams of cocaine from Wiley during a drug transaction” in Bridgeport.

While the majority of the people arrested in the investigation pleaded guilty, Wiley and Watson opted to take their cases to trial.

The jury found Wiley guilty of conspiracy to distribute – and to possess with intent to distribute – fentanyl, along with 500 grams or more of cocaine and marijuana. Wiley was also found guilty of one count of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

Wiley faces between five and 40 years in federal prison.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Elena L. Coronado, Robert S. Dearington, Patrick J. Doherty, and Margaret M. Donovan through the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces Program. https://www.justice.gov/OCDETF.
