Ansonia Man Dies, Second Man Badly Hurt, In Shelton Crash

A 65-year-old man from Ansonia died after a motor vehicle accident in Shelton Tuesday night.

The victim, Michael Bonavita, was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty that was involved in the two-vehicle wreck. 

He died at a hospital, police said in a statement Wednesday.

Another Ansonia resident, Gregory Torwich, 60, was also seriously injured, police said. Torwich is listed in serious but stable condition at an unidentified hospital.

Torwich was a passenger in Bonavita’s Jeep Liberty.

Police did not give any specific information on how the crash happened, saying the department’s accident reconstruction team was investigating.

The other vehicle involved was a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup being driven by 28-year-old Alexander Groski of New Milford. His injuries were minor.

The crash happened about 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of Leavenworth Road, Birdseye Road and School Street, police said.
