A 37-year-old Ansonia man faces 18 months in prison for selling cocaine to a person working with police.
Juan Anthony Zayas accepted a plea agreement Wednesday that saw two felony counts against him dropped in exchange for a five-year prison sentence.
The prison term will be suspended after Zayas serves 18 months, according to an explanation of the sentence in court by Judge Karen Sequino.
Zayas faces three years of probation after he serves the 18 months.
According to statements in court, Zayas was arrested June 8, 2012 after Ansonia police observed him sell cocaine. He was initially charged with conspiracy to commit sale of certain illegal drugs, sale of certain illegal drugs and possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school or daycare.
He pleaded guilty Wednesday to a single count of selling narcotics, a felony.
Zayas will be formally sentenced Oct. 10. He has a previous felony conviction on his criminal record in connection to a 2006 larceny arrest in Ansonia.
