Ansonia Man Faces Weapons Charge

An Ansonia man was arrested Monday morning after police said officers found a gun in his car while searching the man’s vehicle for drugs.

In a prepared statement issued Tuesday (April 16) morning, Lt. Andrew Cota said officers were called to the Beaver Brook apartment complex at 8:46 a.m. Tuesday to investigate a report of male allegedly smoking marijuana while seated inside of a vehicle.”

Responding officers located the vehicle in question and could smell an odor of marijuana coming from inside it, Cota said.

Officers then asked the man inside the vehicle, identified as Joshua Marrero, 20, who lives at the apartment complex, to step out, and he was taken into custody.

As officers searched the inside of the vehicle a .22 caliber handgun was located inside the vehicle,” Cota said. The gun was seized.”

Marrero was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, and possession of marijuana.

He posted a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby April 29.
