Ansonia Mayor To Present Budget

ANSONIA — Mayor David Cassetti is scheduled to present his budget during a public meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday (April 7).

The mayor will be presenting the budget during a joint meeting of the Board of Aldermen and the Board of Apportionment and Taxation, according to an agenda sent to The Valley Indy by the finance department.

Mayor Cassetti used the Code Red messaging system on Feb. 22 and April 5 to promote his budget.

I want to let residents know that I am proposing a city budget that will keep our mill rate STABLE while spending $1 million LESS than the year before I first took office. Meanwhile, we are fully funding our schools and other vital city services. Public hearings will be scheduled soon, and I look forward to hearing YOUR thoughts,” the mayor said in the April 5 message.

However, no copies of the budget were provided to the public in advance of the meeting.

Kurt Miller, the city’s Chief Financial Officer, said copies would be made available to the public on the City of Ansonia website starting at 7 p.m.

Miller has been providing monthly updates to the city’s tax board, and participated in a Valley Indy podcast about Ansonia finances that was published Feb. 28. The podcast is embedded at the bottom of this article.

Thursday, April 14, 2022 (7:00pm) – Board of Apportionment and Taxation and the Board of Aldermen Finance Subcommittee will hold a special budget workshop in the Aldermen Chambers at City Hall

Tuesday, April 19, 2022 (7:00pm) – Board of Apportionment and Taxation will hold a Public Hearing on the proposed FY 2023 budget in the Aldermen Chambers at City Hall

Thursday, April 21, 2022 (7:00pm) – Board of Apportionment and Taxation and the Board of Aldermen Finance Subcommittee will hold a special budget workshop in the Aldermen Chambers at City Hall. Also at this meeting, the Board of Apportionment and Taxation will vote to forward the proposed FY 2023 budget on to the full Board of Aldermen

Tuesday, April 26, 2022 (7:00pm) — Board of Aldermen will hold a special budget workshop in the Aldermen Chambers at City Hall

Thursday, May 5, 2022 (7:00pm) — Board of Aldermen will hold a Public Hearing on the proposed FY 2023 budget in the Aldermen Chambers at City Hall
