Aijaz Ahmen submitted plans to the Ansonia P & Z for a 25-room motel at 557 Wakelee Ave., the former home of catering halls Molto Bene and, prior to that, John J. Sullivan’s.

Ahmen also wants to build a gas station and convenience store on the property.

The plans were first reviewed in public during the March 29 P & Z meeting.

Neighbors said the motel would bring crime to Ansonia’s Wakelee Avenue, and, during the chat function of the March 29 Zoom meeting, raised questions regarding the management and safety of the Big Apple Motel in Waterbury, which Ahmen owns.

Ahmen’s lawyer said that motels and gas stations are allowed on the property.

Monday’s hearing is a chance for the public to formally state, on the record, their opinions on the subject. Previous Valley Indy stories regarding the motel plans are listed after the image.
