At the Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center Saturday (March 1), Mayor David Cassetti and Nature Center Director Alison Rubelmann tap a maple tree to collect sap for maple syrup during the nature center’s annual Maple Festival.
The event was a huge success, based on the number of participants.
Alison led a group of both children and adults and demonstrated the process of tapping maple trees using a hand drill.
It takes 40 gallons of sap to be boiled down to make one gallon of pure maple syrup.
The mayor and others tasted the sap as it flowed out of the trees.
It was an educational and fun time for all!
