Ansonia Officer’s Case Continued

It will be a few more weeks before a trial is scheduled for Ansonia police officer Mustafa Salahuddin.

At a short court appearance earlier this month, Judge Burton Kaplan said he has not heard back from a judge at Superior Court in Milford, where he wanted to have Salahuddin’s trial heard.

Kaplan continued the case until Feb. 16, when he said he expects to have more information about whether Milford can take the case and when the trial will begin.

Salahuddin is facing sixth-degree larceny charges for allegedly stealing a garden hose from the police department in May 2008.

He has pleaded not guilty and wants to have the case go before a jury of prudent people.”

Kaplan said last week he wanted to move the case to Milford because of a backlog of cases on the jury list in Derby.

Friday, Kaplan said the judge in Milford is tied up with several cases too.

By Feb. 16, Kaplan said he will have a better idea whether the trial will move forward in Milford or remain in Derby.
