Ansonia Parks & Rec Hosted The William J. Stokes Memorial Fishing Derby

The annual William J. Stokes Memorial Fishing Derby attracted many youths and adults to Colony Pond last Saturday to test their angling skills in pursuit of trout, bass, catfish, sunfish and prizes.

Trophies and prizes were awarded by the Classic Valley Sportsman Club to kids 15 and under. The event is sponsored by Ansonia Parks & Recreation and is organized by Dave Connelly who oversees Information Technology for Ansonia City Hall and is an avid outdoorsman.

The Fishing Derby is dedicated to the late Bill Stokes of Ansonia who for years persuaded the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) to stock trout and catfish in Colony Pond – which they now do twice annually.

Be on the lookout soon for exciting news regarding a mid-June ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating Mayor David S. Cassetti’s Abe Stone Park & Colony Pond makeover and improved recreational activities.
