Valentine
ANSONIA – Police said a 20-year-old Hartford man was charged Tuesday with the murder of city resident Abdul-Jalil Humphrey.
Sahvone Valentine is charged with felony murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, criminal possession of a firearm and theft of a firearm.
Police believe Valentine shot Humphrey, 30, an Ansonia High School graduate, outside a residence on Hodge Avenue in July.
Police did not detail a motive in a press release issued Tuesday evening. Police said Valentine was arraigned in court on Tuesday.
Valentine is the second person charged in connection to the fatal shooting.
Jada Artis was charged in November with felony murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, and hindering prosecution.
Police said Artis is an accomplice who drove one of the two vehicles connected to the crime.
Valentine, meanwhile, was just sentenced to a two-year prison sentence for a parole violation. He also has a felony larceny case pending out of Middletown.
According to info previously released by police, officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired on Hodge Avenue at 1:40 p.m. July 14.
The first officers on the scene found Humphrey, who had been shot several times, on the ground. His car was stolen. Police recovered both Humphrey’s vehicle and a second vehicle allegedly used to transport Valentine to the scene.
Humphrey was an Ansonia resident. He didn’t live at the address where he died, but did have a connection to the property, police told The Valley Indy in July.
As previously reported, Humphrey’s Facebook page showed a man with a sense of humor who was proud of his kids. He was a graduate of Ansonia High School. He was also a video-game streamer, one of the thousands of people live-streaming the popular‘Call of Duty’ franchise.
