ANSONIA — Police announced a third person has been charged in connection to a 2019 daytime shooting at the corner of Howard Avenue and Church Street.
Demetrus Robinson, 22, of Ansonia, is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree conspiracy to commit assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a pistol without a permit, and illegal discharge of a firearm.
Robinson was charged July 13 (Tuesday). He’ll be arraigned on July 23, according to a statement released by police Thursday (July 15).
Court records show a person with the same name and birth year has a number of cases pending in court, but the files are sealed. That person is being held at The MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield.
Ansonia police previously announced the arrest of two other people:
- On January 28, 2020, Rajohn Joti-James, age 21, of Ansonia was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit.
- On May 26, 2020, Nicholas Verderosa, age 22, of Oxford was charged with first degree conspiracy to commit assault, and first degree criminal liability for assault.
Back on July 23, 2019, Ansonia police responded to a report of shots fired near the intersection of Howard Avenue and Church Street.
An investigation revealed a shoot out had taken place with at least two people firing more than a dozen times in a heavily residential area.
The shooting happened at 12:20 p.m.
Police did not delve into what motivated the shooting.
The shooting was among several that happened in a short time span that year.
