Ansonia Police Investigating New Year's Shooting

ANSONIA — Police are investigating a shooting that happened just over an hour into the New Year on Monday.

According to a statement released by Lt. Patrick Lynch, police received multiple 911 calls at 1:20 a.m. Jan. 1 reporting a person shot near the intersection of East Main Street and Tremont Street.

Police responded to the location and found a vehicle on the sidewalk. In the driver’s seat — a man who had been shot at least once in the lower body, police said.

He was rushed to the hospital and was listed in stable condition as of 2 p.m. Monday.

While the vehicle was found at East Main and Tremont, police said the shooting happened on South Cliff Street near Cottage Avenue, about a half-mile away.

The male then drove to East Main Street before driving off the road onto the sidewalk,” according to the prepared statement.

Those were all the details released Monday. Police said the investigation is continuing, and asked anyone with info to call 203 – 735-1885.
