Police are warning residents in the area of the Beaver Brook Apartments to make sure their doors are locked at night after three reports of a man entering residences in the middle of the night.
Police received a call from a woman at Beaver Brook at about 3 a.m. Sept. 1 saying she woke up to find a man standing inside of her apartment. The man grabbed her by the arm, but then fled the scene without hurting the woman.
The woman described him as Hispanic, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall. The man had a thin build, with wavy brown hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a colored T‑Shirt, according to a statement from police.
The Beaver Brook Apartments are at 445 Beaver St.
Police said they received a similar complaint at the Beaver Brook apartments on June 30. In that case, a woman awoke up at 4 a.m. and found a stranger touching her thigh.
“The male in this incident was described as a light skinned black male with black shorts standing over her,” police said.
The man left the apartment after touching the woman’s leg.
Police began questioning other residents in the apartment complex and learned that sometime in early June a woman woke up to discover her dog was barking at a man who had just entered the apartment. She didn’t call police.
In that case, the man was described as thin, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall.
“It is unknown at this time if these incidents are related but there are definite similarities in each incident,” Ansonia police Lt. Andrew Cota said in a statement.
“Due to the fact that a third similar incident has occurred the Ansonia Police are advising residents of Beaver Brook to lock their doors and windows at night, especially their sliding doors and report anything out of the ordinary,” Cota said.
If anyone sees anything suspicious in the area they are advised to call police immediately at 203 – 735-1885 or 911, Cota said.
