Ansonia Police Warn Of Fake Unmarked Car

ANSONIA — City police warned the public Thursday about a vehicle impersonating police.

On Thursday morning police said they received a complaint about a car with blue and red flashing lights trying to pull motorists over in the areas of Wakelee Avenue and Franklin Street.

The suspect vehicle was described as a Toyota Camry or Honda occupied by three to four people. The Ansonia Police Department does not have Toyota or Honda unmarked vehicles and is not aware of any surrounding departments having those vehicles,” Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a prepared statement.

Lynch noted the department has unmarked cars with lights and sirens, but officers are either in uniform or clearly identifiable as a police officer.”

If you’re not sure the unmarked car is with police, remain calm.

Drive the speed limit, go to a well-populated area before stopping, or call 911 while you are driving to report the incident,” he said.

The department is asking anyone with information to contact 203 – 735-1885. Tips can be left anonymously through TIP 411 at the link below.
