Sometimes people wonder what makes the Valley such an endearing place to live … Well, Sunday on Platt Street, the community rallied together showing the rest of the world why we’re so special!
Sunday’s event “Stuff a Truck,” at Webster Hose, for victims of hurricane Sandy, turned into an overwhelming success when residents not only stuffed a truck, but also over-stuffed a firehouse. All in under three hours.

The event idea came from Mandie Martin who was able to combine Ansonia organizations to ask the community to donate for victims of hurricane Sandy in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.
Bags of coats, blankets, clothing; cases of water, baby formula, diapers; brooms, cleaners; children’s toys and games; paper towels, toilet paper, and other toiletries were just some of the more noticeable items that filled the firehouse.
Residents would pull alongside the firehouse dropping off a bag or two. Then trucks with full trailers started to arrive, overfilling the two large firehouse bays. Soon a new location was identified and the Ansonia Fire Museum became a secondary location. As items were sorted and categorized, firefighters filled trucks to move items across town.
Involved organizations include: AHS Cheer Spirit Group; Webster Hose; Ansonia, Mid-Conn, Shoreline, and Colonial Youth Football and Cheer; Ansonia Public Works; Ansonia Public Schools; Ansonia Recreation; and Derby Home Depot.
Many “thanks” to all those who donated to help our neighbors in need.
