Ansonia Rotarians Organize Day Of Caring

ANSONIA — The Ansonia Animal Control facility has a new resource now – a storage shed for its supplies — thanks to the Ansonia Rotary Club, whose members brought their tools and skills to the Ansonia DPW complex on Saturday morning.

Past President Lori Veillette organized the local Rotary Day of Caring activity after Animal Control Officer Jeanie Roslonowski expressed the need for additional space at the facility to better organize supplies and alleviate overcrowding.

The Club used its funds to purchase the shed from Home Depot, which offered an excellent product at a discounted value. Current Club President Joe Pinto supervised the shed assembly, which went smoothly despite periods of rain showers.

Ansonia Rotary Club members also recently purchased and delivered 800 dictionaries to Prendergast, Mead and Assumption Schools for distribution to every third and fourth grade student in the city. This annual civic activity has been a trademark of Rotarians throughout the US, and was postponed in Ansonia last year due to the pandemic.

Next month, the Club will announce the recipient of its annual $1,000 scholarship, designed to assist a matriculating high school senior. Applications are available at AHS and Emmet O’Brian guidance offices. The deadline for submission is May 1.

Currently the Ansonia Rotary meets on alternating Tuesdays at 12:15 PM at Uptown Bar & Eatery (formerly Crave). Guests are welcomed. For more information, go to the Club’s website: https://ansoniarotary.org
