Police have identified the victim of Monday’s shooting as 22-year-old Tyrease Gatison of Caroline Street in Derby.
Gatison was shot in the leg while he was inside apartment #50 at the Riverside Apartment Complex on Olson Drive just before 2 p.m.
Gatison was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with what appeared to be non-lifethreatening injuries, police said.
The shooting is under investigation still, and police continue to interview possible witnesses, said Lt. Andrew Cota.
The suspect, a black male, fled the scene in a light blue colored car driven by a woman, Cota said.
Police have received conflicting accounts of how the shooting occurred.
In one account, Gatison was inside the apartment when a man knocked on the door. When the tenant opened the door, the gunman allegedly shot inside the apartment, striking Gatison on the right leg.
In the other account, Gatison and the gunman we seen walking in the neighborhood together, and both went into the apartment at the same time, Cota said.
“We have heard both stories,” Cota said. “We haven’t been able to confirm which story is true.”
Police spoke to Gatison briefly before an ambulance took him to the hospital Monday afternoon. Cota said they haven’t been able to get in touch with him for a follow up interview yet.
