A 24-year-old man said he was sitting in a car on Tremont Street Sunday when a group of men yanked him out and stabbed him.
“The car was broken down. They saw me, walked up to the car, and pulled me out,” the victim, a Stratford resident, told the Valley Indy Thursday.
Ansonia police said this week they are confident they’ll be able to catch the people responsible for the crime, which was particularly disturbing.

The man — the Valley Indy isn’t naming him — said he was giving a female friend a ride home at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday when he missed her road and wound up on Tremont Street.
Then, the car sputtered to a stop. It was out of gas. He was on the phone calling AAA around the time when several men set upon him.
As he struggled, one of them stabbed at him — repeatedly. His mind raced through the awful possibilities of what was going to happen to him.
Meanwhile, the group also robbed the woman in the car of her pocketbook, according to the man’s account.
His thoughts went to the friend he was driving home. He said he wanted to “just get them away, just push them away, basically.”
The woman was not injured.
The man was treated for two knife wounds at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
“I’m good,” he said Thursday. “I was good the day after.”
Still, he said the attack could have left him far worse off.
“There was nine or 10 holes in my sweatshirt, but they only got me twice,” he said.
Police: We’ll Get Arrest Warrants
Ansonia police say they expect to obtain arrest warrants soon for the suspects.
Lt. Andrew Cota said Wednesday that police have identified at least one of the suspects and that detectives are pursuing leads to identify the others.
He said it seems like the victims were targeted randomly.
“It does not appear that there was any type of interaction between these two groups prior (to the incident),” Cota said.
He asked that anyone with information call police at 203 – 735-1885.
“We’ve got pretty good suspects, we just have to get them identified firmly and then get arrest warrants,” Cota said. “We’re pretty confident we’re going to be able to make arrests.”
Police described the suspects as four black males in their early 20s.
They were seen driving an older model Toyota, possibly silver or another light color.
