Hamden Hall Country Day School’s Middle School Mathcounts Team placed in the top three out of 27 participating schools in the state Mathcounts competition held March 8 at the University of Hartford.
Hamden Hall’s Mathcounts Team is made up of six students including eighth-graders Dylan Balter of East Haven, Adam Lang of Ansonia, Jinxin Pan of Hamden, Tommy Walsh of Woodbridge, Safi Wazaz of Cheshire, and sixth-grader Kadin Zhang of Hamden.
Mathematics teacher Maria Agulian, who also serves as Hamden Hall’s Math Team Advisor, is the coach of the Mathcounts Team.
According to the Connecticut Society of Professional Engineers, which organized the competition, Mathcounts is the only nationwide math enrichment, club and competition program designed to improve math skills for U.S. middle school students.
“Mathcounts prepares students for future career opportunities and success,” said state Mathcounts coordinator Richard Olsowy.
