Ansonia Students Team With Peapod To Donate Food

Students from Prendergast School in Ansonia delivered donations of food to Christ Church Food Bank on Nov. 18.

The delivery was part of the Kids Give Back” program run through Peapod, a grocery delivery service.

On Oct. 19, a Peapod representative visited the Prendergast School and worked with a 3rd grade teacher, Joanne Wiacek to organize the event.

Peapod.com partners with classrooms to make a contribution of healthy foods to a local food bank.

Peapod provided the classroom with Peapod gift cards for $150 to buy food for an area food bank. Along with the gift cards, Peapod gave the classroom a special challenge: Buy the most nutritious foods for the least amount of money.

To help students determine what their optimal donation can be, Peapod and the local food bank provide information about what foods and items are most valuable and in demand from the community. Peapod also provides information about how to use its online services to find the best values from both a price and nutritional perspective.

After the order was completed, students from the Prendergast School visited the Christ Church Food Bank, along with the Peapod delivery truck, and helped bring the donated food into the food bank.
