Ansonia’s new Riverwalk will be dedicated at a ceremony Thursday (Oct. 27).
Officials will gather at the new pavilion on the corner of Division and North Division streets at 3 p.m.
The Riverwalk begins at the corner, across the street from the end of Derby’s Greenway trail.
Ansonia’s path stretches north along the Naugatuck River. The first phase extends to the railroad tracks. Future phases of the project aim to build a bridge over the tracks, and extend the trail to the sidewalk at Pershing Drive.
From there, the city hopes to eventually create another walkway across the river, behind buildings on Main Street, where people can walk a loop from Division Street to Bridge Street and back.
The first phase of the project is costing about $1 million, and the total project is estimated at $2.4 million.
Mayor James Della Volpe said the funding has come through mostly grants.
Unlike Derby’s Greenway trail, Ansonia’s Riverwalk will not allow animals of any kind.
