The Ansonia Chargers put a beat down on Ledyard Saturday to win the class M state championship 38 – 0.
The game saw sophomore sensation Arkeel Newsome break the state’s single-season rushing and touchdown records, according to sports reporters posting on Twitter.
The Chargers finish the season a remarkable 14 – 0. That’s the first time that’s happened in the state as well.
According to official stats, Newsome finished the game with 42 carries for 364 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 8.7 yards per carry.

It’s the seventeenth football state title in the school’s history.
