Ansonia’s Roberts Dominates Hall Of Fame Football Classic

For the New Haven chapter of the National Football Foundation, winning the annual Hall of Fame Classic against Fairfield County isn’t everything.

It’s the only thing.

New Haven County avenged last year’s 31 – 30 double-overtime loss to Fairfield County with a dominating 49 – 0 win Friday at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.

We were fortunate enough to have some good kids on this team, and they played great tonight,” said Ansonia head coach Tom Brockett, who was in charge of the New Haven team.

Ansonia running back Tristan Roberts, who will play this fall at Lackawanna College in Scranton, PA, helped the New Haven chapter with 114 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Roberts said last year’s loss definitely got New Haven County motivated.

Every day we talked about it in practice,” Roberts said. We fed our energy on it.”

But Brockett said he felt Fairfield County was just as motivated to get a second straight win in the series, with New Haven County leads 9 – 4.

It’s Fairfield vs. New Haven,” Brockett said. The coaches are into it, the players are into it, and I think it’s like that on both sides.”

Shelton linebacker Nick Georgalas forced a fumble on the first play from scrimmage, which set up New Haven’s first touchdown.

Proceeds from the game go to fund scholarships for senior football players from schools from both chapters.
