
OXFORD — Attention all Class of 2024 high school seniors who are residents of Oxford: prepare now and mark your calendars for January 5, 2024 to “Save the Date!”
The Board of Directors of The Rowland R. Strong and Edith H. Strong Memorial Scholarship Fund are pleased to announce that the 2024 application for this prestigious 4‑year renewable scholarship will be available online on January 5, 2024! This scholarship application can be accessed on the Town of Oxford website (www.oxford-ct.gov) and on your school’s website. All eligible Oxford residents who will graduate from high school in 2024 are encouraged to apply (see eligibility requirements listed below).
Since 2018, the Board of Directors of The Rowland R. Strong and Edith H. Strong Memorial Scholarship Fund has awarded this 4‑year renewable scholarship to two (2) Oxford residents in their senior year of high school who meet the eligibility criteria. Annually, the amount of each scholarship award has been at least $8,000 and is renewable for three (3) subsequent years provided that the recipients continue in a 4‑year degree program at an accredited college or university.
The Rowland R. Strong & Edith H. Strong Memorial Scholarship Fund was established through the bequest of Miriam S. Strong (a long-time Oxford resident) in memory of her late parents who were advocates of supporting young people to continue their education by earning a college degree. Recipients of this scholarship have gone through a competitive process which includes an essay, letters of recommendation, and an interview by community members. The intent of the scholarship is to provide financial support to Oxford student(s) who are able to attend a 4‑year college or university.
The eligibility criteria for the 2024 Rowland R. Strong and Edith H. Strong Memorial Scholarship are as follows:
- Must be able to demonstrate financial need.
- Must be a resident of Oxford Connecticut.
- Must be a high school senior graduating in 2024.
- Must plan to enroll in and attend a 4‑year college or university as a full-time student.*
- *Applicants enrolling in a CT State Community College who have applied to a pathways program for a 4‑year Bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply. Disbursement of scholarship funds will be contingent upon acceptance and continued enrollment in the 4‑year degree program.
- Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or 79.5 or higher on a 100-point scale

The Rowland R. Strong & Edith H. Strong Memorial Scholarship Fund is administered by the Valley Community Foundation, a 501c‑3 non-profit organization located in Derby, Connecticut.
