Artist/Award Winning Author Steve Parlato To Exhibits Artwork In Plumb Memorial Library

Plumb Memorial Library, located at 65 Wooster Street in Shelton, will be exhibiting the works of artist, author and educator Steve Parlato during the month of February. Steve will also be discussing his creative process and the methods he uses to craft his work in a special presentation on Saturday, February 10th at 11:00. Parlato will present a Powerpoint presentation along with his poetry and answer questions about his artwork. The public is invited to attend and registration is not required.

The 16-piece portrait collage series, We Are Not Disposable” each show a black American whose life was changed due to racial violence. Parlato uses his poetry and artwork to promote conversations about racism, with the goal of fostering connection and opening minds.

Parlato is an award-winning poet and college professor, as well as the author of two YA books, The Namesake”, which won the Tassy Walden Award for New Voices in YA Fiction and Precious Dreadful”. He holds a BFA degree in graphic design/illustration from the University of Connecticut and has earned an M.A.L.S in humanities with a focus on writing from Wesleyan University. 

His poetry appears in journals including Freshwater, Peregrine, CT River Review, and MARGIE. Mr. Parlato has offered writing workshops at libraries throughout the state and has been on author panels in Pennsylvania and Texas.
