Assault Victim Wants Leniency For Derby Man

The Derby man who was assaulted by his partner with a wine bottle wants state prosecutors to go easy on suspect Sean Rasmussen.

Rasmussen, 42, was charged with first-degree assault in June, after he got into a drunken fight with the victim, and hit the man on the head with a wine bottle.

The alleged assault fractured the victim’s skull, eye socket, jaw and cheek bone, according to a police report.

The victim, who has not been named, was hospitalized after the attack, according to police.

The broken bottle cut the victim’s arm, severing his artery in two places. He required emergency surgery to save his life, police said.

Senior Assistant States Attorney Charles Stango said the victim has been talking with and writing to the prosecutors asking for leniency in the case.

He’s very concerned about the outcome,” Stango said during a brief court hearing for Rasmussen on Oct. 27 at Superior Court in Milford.

Not action was taken in court Oct. 27.

Rasmussen’s attorney, public defender David Egan, asked that the case be continued until Nov. 7.

We’re fairly close to resolving this matter,” Egan said Thursday.

Rasmussen remains in jail.
