Autumn Leaves Exploration At The Kellogg Environmental Center

DERBY – Join Kellogg Environmental Center’s staff on Saturday, October 16th from 10:00am-11:30am for an in-person program where participants of any age can learn the reasons leaves change color in autumn and how to identify some common Connecticut tree species.

Participants will meet at the tent next to the Kellogg Environmental Center before being led into the woods at Osbornedale State Park across the street. While in the park, participants will be able to explore the many shapes and colors of leaves that can be found in Connecticut this time of year. After the walk, participants will be led back to the Center to investigate autumn leaves under microscopes to gain a closer understanding of why leaves change color as well as general plant cell structure. Participants will also be provided with instructions for autumn leaf craft ideas to take home with them.
