Baby’s Death In Ansonia Ruled A Homicide

A 5‑month old baby boy’s death in Ansonia has been ruled a homicide, police said Wednesday.

There is a suspect in the case and the investigation is proceeding forward,” police spokesman Lt. Andrew Cota said in a prepared statement.

On Friday (June 10), police responded to a residence on Hubbell Avenue at about 7:20 p.m. after receiving a report of a child in distress,” Cota said.

The baby — along with two other children — were under the care of the mother’s boyfriend at the time of the medical call, police said.

Police and medics administered emergency aid to the baby boy and took him to Griffin Hospital.

The child was then taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was put on life support. Police were told the child was not expected to survive. Detectives were notified Sunday that the baby died.

An autopsy performed Tuesday determined the baby died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

The state Department of Children and Families were brought in to check on the condition of the two other children, who are between the ages of 2 and 5.

The surviving children are now staying with a relative.
