There were three reports of black bear sightings in Oxford Monday, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection.
The Oxford sightings came from a park ranger at Kettletown State Park and from people calling the black bear hot line, Rego said.
The bear sightings came a day after a black bear was spotted at several locations in Derby, including Route 34 and the back end of Osbornedale State Park.
The bear was spotted in Derby between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday.
Rego said it is possible the Derby bear is heading north, which would explain the Sunday and Monday sightings.
“They can travel at a good rate,” Rego said. “It doesn’t surprise me.”
Trooper Michael Diki said there was also a black bear sighting last Thursday in the Jack’s Hill area.
According to the DEP, there hasn’t been a report of a black bear sighting in Oxford since June 2010.
There was a bear sighting in Ansonia sometime in the last year.
