Bear Spotted In Ansonia

The Valley Indy received three reports regarding a bear in Ansonia Wednesday.

Michael Carpinello posted on Facebook at about 10:30 a.m. saying he spotted a bear on Fairview Street in the area of the Prendergast School.

Viewers also sent video of the bear to WTNH, which can be viewed in the YouTube player above.

The bear could be seen at a bird feeder. Bears are attracted to bird feeders. Residents have been repeatedly advised to take bird feeders down in the spring, as there is no need for them.

The Ansonia bear sighting comes after repeated sightings in Derby and Seymour.

According to the state, there have been eight black bear sightings in Derby during the past year, 117 sightings in Oxford, 29 in Seymour, and two in Shelton.
