The Naugatuck Valley Audubon Society, Inc., in cooperation with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s (DEEP) will host a Birds of Prey program on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kellogg Environmental Center, Derby.
Join us and volunteers from A Place Called Hope for the unique experience of meeting four to five live birds of prey up close and personal. This hour long presentation will delight the bird enthusiast, as the strong message of preservation is aligned perfectly with simple solutions to lessening everyday conflicts that can occur between humans and wildlife.
Cameras are welcome. This is an all ages, fun, family event.
Wildlife Rehabilitators and volunteers share an incredible passion at A Place Called Hope (APCH), Inc. in Killingworth, CT. This non-profit organization is dedicated to the preservation of wildlife and specializes in the rescue, rehabilitation, re-nesting and release of wild injured, orphaned, or sick birds of prey. APCH’s goal is to see these magnificent birds return to the wild after a brief stay at their facility. For those who are not capable of surviving on their own, APCH provides proper housing and care for a team of resident faculty birds who are carefully trained to stand on a gloved hand and help volunteers educate the public.
Educational opportunities are a critical tool to helping spread the message of the preservation of the various raptor species. It is how A Place Called Help introduces the public to the mission of protecting and respecting wildlife and gives APCH the perfect platform to share simple solutions to common everyday conflicts between wildlife and man. Co-existing successfully requires team work.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Kellogg Environmental Center is located at 500 Hawthorne Avenue, Derby, CT.
A donation of $4.00/adult and $2.00/student or child is requested. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.
