Blake
A former Ansonia Alderman and longtime corporation counsel pleaded not guilty to drunk driving Tuesday (Sept. 26).
Kevin Blake, 56, was arrested Sept. 12 after police obtained an arrest warrant in connection to a July 29 crash on Franklin Street.
In court Tuesday, Blake’s lawyer, Kevin Condon, entered the not guilty plea on Blake’s behalf.
Judge Karen Sequino continued the case to Oct. 23 after warning Blake not to drive with a suspended license.
Blake’s driver’s license is currently valid, but he faced an automatic 45-day suspension due to his arrest.
He has challenged the suspension, so the DMV will conduct an administrative hearing on the matter scheduled for Oct. 26 in Waterbury.
Condon and Blake declined to comment after leaving the courtroom.
Background
Blake crashed his Honda CRV into a Ford Fusion parked on Franklin Street about 4:15 p.m. July 29 and was transported to Griffin Hospital.
Police obtained a search warrant for Blake’s medical records, which police said showed that Blake’s blood alcohol content was .22, nearly three times the state’s legal limit for being behind the wheel.
Police initially gave Blake a ticket in connection to the crash because they thought that Blake’s blood hadn’t been tested for alcohol.
They eventually determined that Blake’s blood had been tested.
Police are now conducting an internal investigation into how the probe was handled.
Blake had been nominated by the city’s Democrats to run for Seventh Ward Alderman at their nominating caucus in July but dropped his candidacy in a Sept. 14 letter to the town clerk.
He served as the city’s corporation counsel in the administration of James Della Volpe and has a lengthy record of service in the city’s volunteer fire department.
