Body Found In Naugatuck River In Seymour

SEYMOUR — An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the identity and cause of death for a man who was found in the Naugatuck River on Sunday.

According to a prepared statement from Seymour Police Department Chief John Bucherati, a person spotted a body under the Broad Street Bridge at 11:37 a.m. during the town’s Memorial Day parade.

The bridge connects Derby Avenue to Route 115 entering downtown Seymour.

Seymour emergency service crews cordoned off the area, according to Chief Bucherati. Detectives and the medical examiner’s office were notified.

The person was described as an adult male.

The Seymour Fire Department recovered the body, an adult male, which was in various stages of decomposition,” the chief said. The medical examiner took custody and transported the body to Farmington, where they will perform an autopsy to determine the subject’s identity and cause of death.”

In addition to the cause of death, the medical examiner will try to determine the manner of death, such as accidental, homicide, suicide, which helps the police proceed in their investigation.
