A fire truck responding to a false fire call was involved in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Leavenworth Road and Maple Lane Thursday.
One person was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The 16-year-old Shelton boy who placed the false fire call was arrested.
According to Shelton police, the teen dialed 911 at about 11:30 a.m. and said “help, fire,” before hanging up. The dispatcher attempted to call back several times. The cell phone number was traced to an address on Driftwood Lane.
The crash happened as firefighters were responding.
“The accident is still under investigation by the Shelton Police Traffic Division and no enforcement action has been taken,” police said in a prepared statement.
The cell phone was traced to a high school student. The cell phone’s owner had given the phone to a friend who placed the call, police said.
The teen who allegedly made the call was charged with first-degree falsely reporting an Incident and misuse of the emergency 911 system.
