Suspect In Shelton Attack To Submit DNA

Justin Bonner, the 25-year-old Stratford man accused of attacking a Cumberland Farms clerk in Shelton this summer, was ordered Wednesday to submit a DNA sample to the state.

The DNA swab will be used to for evidence purposes, State’s Attorney Kevin D. Lawlor told Judge Richard Arnold at Superior Court in Milford during the brief court appearance.

Lawlor said the prosecutor’s office will not question Bonner when they collect the sample from him.

Bonner, 25, who allegedly kidnapped and then assaulted a 46-year-old female clerk at the Shelton Cumberland Farms, was charged on June 2 with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree assault.

Both charges are felonies.

Bonner told police he was high on angel dust when he allegedly dragged the clerk out of the store, stuffed her in the trunk of his car and then severely beat her with soda cans and other objects.

Bonner’s case was continued until Nov. 4.

Three people came to support Bonner at his court date. All three declined to comment outside court.

Bonner blew a kiss to the supporters on his way out from lock-up, and again as court marshals escorted him out of court and back to jail.
