Boy Scouts Honor Fletcher-Thompson Inc.

For all its work in helping Boy Scouts in the Naugatuck Valley become reliable and contributing young men, Fletcher-Thompson Inc. of Shelton Thursday received the Good Scout Award from the Housatonic Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

The architectural and engineering firm received the award for its support of the Housatonic Council, which includes more than 2,000 Scouts in the towns of Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour and Shelton.

Most notable of its contributions is its donation of design services for a new bathhouse at the Council’s Camp Strang in Goshen.

It means a lot for us,” said Fletcher-Thompson Chief Financial Officer Michael Marcinek. We hope we can make a difference in the life of a Scout. It’s an opportunity to help them accomplish something.”

Marcinek said the firm has always sought to help out where it can. The Boy Scouts are an ideal choice. They learn such important lessons at an early age,” Marcinek said. They’re taught core lessons in life.”

Firm President Daniel Casinelli said it felt good to assist the Council. His sons, Michael, 9, and Stephen, 11, are members of Troop 55 in Shelton and were at the ceremony.

Fletcher-Thompson has already done work with Habitat for Humanity and the United Way, he said.

Contributing in the community is important for us,” Casinelli said. It sets a good example for the kids.”

This is the fifteenth year the council has issued the award, symbolized by the R. Tait McKenzie Statue. Previous winners include developer Robert Scinto and Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti.
