The Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day Road Race Committee recently announced that the 11th Annual race held last Thanksgiving 2012, netted a donation of over $11,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley.
Members of the Race Committee and Jeanne Connors, from Greco and Haines, were the very first sponsors of the race — and the main sponsor for all eleven years presented a check to Shaye Roscoe for the proceeds of the race.
With this year’s donation, the race has now raised more than $110,000 for the Boys and Girls Club since the race began in 2002.
Connors said that Greco and Haines became the main sponsor to help all of the children who benefit from the services offered at the Boys and Girls Club.
Roscoe said, “The dollars raised have a great impact on the thousands of children who have been members of the club in the eleven year history of the race. We really appreciate Greco and Haines and all the other sponsors who have made this possible.”
Dave Grant, who served as Chair of last year’s race said, “It was a real pleasure to serve as the Chair of such a great event and I want to thank all our volunteers who do such an incredible job putting this together and keeping our runners safe.”
He said, that there would not be a race without the sponsors, and lastly he thanked the runners who come back year after year making the race such a success.
The race is held every Thanksgiving morning and starts and ends at Riverwalk in Shelton.
However, one of the unique aspects of this race is the course itself. It twice crosses the Derby/Shelton Bridge on its way out, then back again to the mid-point at the Derby Public Library.
This year the race will be held on Thanksgiving morning at 8:00 a.m.
Registration begins in September and the race has over 700 spots available.
