The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley’s Torch Club members hosted a Nina “Poeta Power” Day on Feb. 4.
They spent over two months raising money through bake sales and hat days and could not wait to invite Nina to our club to present her with all of her favorite things.
We invited Nina, her family and friends to spend some time with us and present her with a day all about her! Members presented Nina with chocolate covered strawberries and pineapples, cheer cupcakes and cards, a proclamation declaring Feb. 4 as Nina Poeta Day at our club, a pink club shirt and a $250 monetary donation to the Poeta Family Fund. Our younger members even put on a dance/cheer routine for her.
Torch Club is a youth leadership development program, targeted to youth ages 11 to 13. Members elect officers and implement their own activities and community service projects. Our Torch Club is nationally awarded and holds an official charter from the Boys and Girls Club of America. Our Torch Club members sure do have GREAT big hearts!
