Boys & Girls Club Members Win Award For Community Service Project

CONTRIBUTEDThe Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley’s Seymour Unit is excited to announce that in their first year the Torch Club Trailblazers were able to successfully raise enough money to send 19 members to the Northeast Torch Club Summit in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Even more exciting is that, at the summit, the Trailblazers were awarded Community Service Project of the Year for their project, Super Socks!

The Super Socks Project began in February with Torch Club members collecting toiletries and non-perishable foods to stuff into pairs of new, clean socks to donate to the Spooner House in Shelton.

CONTRIBUTED

After collecting the supplies, 30 Torch Club members, 5 volunteers, and all staff members helped to stuff the socks and attach notes of encouragement and hope.

They then delivered them to the Spooner House, where they met with the director and were able to tour the facility. These socks were distributed to homeless members of our community upon their arrival at the Spooner House.

CONTRIBUTEDA second major award was also announced at the Summit — Torch Club Adviser Breon Sanders was named Adviser of the Year for the Northeast region! These were the only two awards given at the summit, and our Seymour Unit swept them! We could not be prouder of this group of people, led by the always-inspiring Breon Sanders for this huge accomplishment in their first year!
