From now through August 15, grocery shoppers can visit their local IGA Supermarket, including Adams Supermarket at 200 Leavenworth Road in Shelton, and make a donation to help Special Olympics athletes reach their dreams.
IGA Supermarkets across the Northeast will be holding their annual ‘Reaching for the Stars’ Hang Tag Promotion during the summer months to rally support for Special Olympics programs that inspire respect, acceptance and inclusion for people of all abilities.
Shoppers are asked to add “support Special Olympics” to their grocery list, shop at their local IGA market and make a donation of $1.00 or more at checkout. In recognition of their contribution, a hang tag with the donor’s name (if desired) will be displayed in the store for the duration of the campaign.
Since 2008, the hang tag promotion has been conducted to assist Special Olympics is covering costs of providing thousands of local athletes with the equipment, uniforms and venues to train and compete in sports, year-round.
One-hundred percent of the proceeds from this effort will go to the local Law Enforcement Torch Run Program that financially supports Special Olympics programs throughout the state.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is one of the movement’s largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicles and encompasses a variety of events supporting Special Olympics including the annual Torch Run, and Cop-on-Top and Tip-A-Cop fundraising events.
