Bridgeport Man Charged With Stealing 12 Shelton Guns

A 44-year-old Bridgeport man faces 12 counts of theft of a firearm, according to a press release sent Thursday by Shelton police.

Walter Gonzalez is also charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and single counts of first-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief.

He was arrested Thursday (March 17) and was scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Derby.

The charges stem from two Shelton burglaries in November 2015, according to police. One burglary was on Lady Slipper Drive. Jewelry and a television were stolen.

The second burglary was on Isinglass Road, where Gonzalez allegedly made off with a large safe. Inside the safe — 12 firearms and more than $100,000 worth of jewelry.

Shelton Detectives recovered one of the stolen firearms and linked it to Gonzalez,” according to a press release.

Police didn’t elaborate, but said they received a warrant to search Gonzalez’ residence in Bridgeport, where they allegedly recovered some of the stolen Shelton weapons.

Gonzalez is a suspect in other burglaries in the Shelton area, police said.

He was being held on a $450,000 bond as of 10 a.m. Thursday.
