Bridgeport Woman Gets Five Years In Ansonia Slashing

A judge sentenced a Bridgeport woman to serve five years behind bars Thursday after she pleaded guilty to slashing her boyfriend’s arm at an Ansonia residence in August.

The woman, Damaris Torres, 40, pleaded guilty before Judge Frank Iannotti to second-degree assault and second-degree burglary at Superior Court in Milford.

Trouble began for Torres, Assistant State’s Attorney Charles Stango said in court, when she drove by a Pershing Drive home about 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 12 and saw her boyfriend’s car parked outside.

Thinking the boyfriend — to whom she had provided substantial financial support,” Stango said — was having a relationship with another woman, she grabbed a knife, got out of her car and stormed into the home, where there were children playing at the time.

After ascending a stairwell in the home, Stango said, Torres apparently thought better of it” and left the house.

But she only got as far as the front lawn of the residence, where she encountered the boyfriend. An argument ensued. It got physical.

She had an altercation with him and slashed him with a knife from his right shoulder to his right elbow and upper forearm, causing a severe laceration,” Stango said.

The man was treated for the injury at Griffin Hospital and released later that day.

The prosecutor said that he had spoken to the man Torres slashed on a previous court date and that, despite the knife wound, he didn’t want Torres punished severely.

Although there is a very pronounced scar, his arm is essentially healed and he was actually hoping for leniency for Ms. Torres,” Stango said.

I just want to make sure she’s OK,” Stango quoted the man as saying.

A plea deal in the case called for a five-year prison sentence to be followed by five years of special parole.

While on parole, Judge Iannotti ordered Torress not to have any contact with the man.

Torres has been in custody, held in lieu of $250,000 bond, since her Aug. 12 arrest in the case.
