Police apprehended a man Thursday who had barricaded himself in the bedroom of his Seventh Street residence.
Received a report of shots fired inside the residence at about 8 p.m. Luckily, that report turned out false.
Shelton police were at the residence following up on a complaint regarding the custody of a dog. A man in his 20s apparently became distraught and sought refuge in a bedroom. He made threatening statements — and then people heard a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot.
It was later revealed the man had banged metal on metal inside the room.
In the meantime, police from Derby, Ansonia and Seymour arrived at the scene and surrounded the residence.
Police were readying shields, helmets and a negotiator, according to radio transmissions.
However, none were needed as the man surrendered peacefully.
Police had him in custody after about 35 minutes.
A police officer said the man appeared to be suffering from mental health issues. He was taken to a hospital for help.
His name was not immediately available.
