Two brothers are due in court on assault charges in connection to the vicious beat down of a 56-year-old man near the train station on West Main Street.
Jeffrey Passander, Jr. and his 16-year-old brother, both of Ansonia, are accused of beating the man Nov. 18, 2009 with small bats, according to an arrest warrant.
The victim suffered a broken nose and eye socket — along with multiple bruises to his ribs and legs.
The brothers allegedly attacked the man as retribution because they thought the victim “screwed over” a friend. The older brother accused the man of working with police before knocking him to the ground and beating him, according to an arrest warrant.
The victim, bleeding, with his left eye swollen shut, walked into the nearby Ansonia Rescue Medical Services and was taken to Griffin Hospital.
The victim was apparently intoxicated at the time of the attack, an arrest warrant states.
Officer Edward Magera and an Officer Capezzali conducted interviews and worked with detectives to prepare a photo line up for the victim, who believed he knew one of his attackers.
The victim identified the older Passander brother.
Police then interviewed Jeffrey Passander, Jr., who told police he wasn’t in the area of the train station the night of the attack.
The younger brother, whose name was not released due to his age, told police that Jeffrey initiated the attack by hitting the victim with a stick.
The brothers were arrested and charged Jan. 22 with first-degree assault, a felony. Passander, Jr. also faces a felony charge of conspiracy to commit assault.
He is out on a $10,000 bond pending a Feb. 16 court appearance.
