Budget Talks Begin In Derby

The group that decides how much you’ll pay in taxes will start hearing funding requests from city officials starting Tuesday, March 6.

The Derby Board of Apportionment and Taxation will first hear from the Derby Board of Education on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The school board is asking for a budget-to-budget increase of 4.66 percent.

Superintendent Stephen Tracy will explain the school board’s request to the tax board.

All Derby tax board meetings are open to the public. Anyone may attend.

The meetings are scheduled to be held in the basement of Derby City Hall in the media center.” City Hall is at 1 Elizabeth St.

A formal public hearing, where residents can sound off on the proposed spending plan, has yet to be scheduled.

It is going to be a tough budget year in Derby, as the city just went through a city-wide revaluation, as mandated by state law.
