SEYMOUR — School officials said a paraprofessional who works at Bungay School and underwent shoulder surgery last week after being struck by a vehicle downtown on June 4 is recovering.

I know that her husband gave the school an update and said that she was doing okay,” Seymour Superintendent of Schools Susan Compton told the Valley Indy via an email June 6.

Compton said Cynthia Brown had surgery at Waterbury Hospital last week.

The family is just asking for privacy,” Compton said. We heard that surgery was done yesterday afternoon (June 5) on her shoulder and that overall she is doing as well as to be expected. She has been an excellent employee for the Seymour Public Schools at Bungay Elementary. Our prayers and love are with her at this time.”

The Valley Indy reached out to Waterbury Hospital Monday (June 10) to see if Brown was still a patient there or whether she’d been released but did not hear back.

According to Seymour Police Chief John Bucherati, a police report was not ready as of Monday afternoon (June 10). However, Bucherati did release a few details about the driver of the vehicle that struck Brown.

The driver was identified as Stephany Ball, 39, of Ansonia. Bucherati said police are still investigating.

Brown, 61, was struck by a vehicle driven by Ball just before 4:30 p.m. June 4 in downtown Seymour, at the intersection of Main Street at Bank Street.

Police said Brown was crossing Main Street when she was hit by a vehicle turning south onto Main Street from Bank Street, across from the Seymour train station.

Police said Ball remained on scene and was cooperating with police. Police initially said Brown suffered a serious head injury. Bucherati told The Valley Indy last week that Brown suffered broken ribs, contusions to the head and a shoulder injury.

The Valley Indy sent Bungay School Principal Lauren Reid emails to see if a GoFundMe page or any other fundraising efforts were happening on Brown’s behalf, but did not hear back.
