Two teachers, a library specialist, the assistant principal and principal at Bungay Elementary School were recently recognized by the Connecticut Association of Schools for a summer reading program at the school.
Those recognized were:
- Stefanie Slie, teacher
- Katie Riordan, teacher
- Sue Dowdell, library-media specialist
- Ernie Distasi, Assistant Principal
- MarySue Feige, Principal
These educators were honored for their successful pilot program called, “The Motivating Summer Reading Program.”
This program was implemented to provide summer intervention for students who demonstrated regression in their reading base on the spring and fall universal reading assessment used by the district. The data collected demonstrated that 11 out of 13 participants maintained or surpassed their spring performance during the summer.
These educators who volunteered their time this summer went above and beyond to find new and exciting ways to improve our students’ learning.
