DERBY — The Derby Board of Aldermen/Alderwomen recently passed local legislation establishing the Derby Adopt-A-Spot Program. The intent of the program is to encourage individuals, organizations and businesses to participate in beautification and litter cleanups of designated areas in the community at regular intervals.
The program will also reduce the number of hours the Derby Public Works Department devotes at each of these designated areas so their manpower and hours can be redirected elsewhere in the city.
A one-time sponsor fee to adopt a specific location in Derby for a predetermined number of years is $475.
This sponsor fee will cover the cost of the sign bearing the name and logo of the individual, organization or business, and will include installation of the sign.
“The signage is a great way for businesses and organizations to advertise at a nominal fee in comparison to other methods. The longer a site is adopted and maintained, the more economical the sponsor fee becomes,” said Rob Hyder, a 3rd Ward alderman and the Adopt-A-Spot Program Coordinator.
Mayor Richard Dziekan said, “The past couple of years, we introduced the annual city-wide cleanup effort by Derby City Hall. This new Derby Adopt-A-Spot program is a great addition to the ongoing beautification of our great city.”
Hyder added, “Before the Derby Adopt-A-Spot program was initiated, local businesses were calling City Hall looking to participate.”
A list of locations around the city has previously been approved, but applicants are welcome to propose alternate locations for consideration.
