Three people helped capture two suspected car burglars Wednesday in Shelton.
According to police, a woman saw 45-year-old Kari Franco of Shelton rummaging through her car in a municipal lot on Bridge Street at about 10:30 p.m.
Franco got out of the car and had cash in her hand allegedly stolen from the vehicle.
The vehicle’s owner demanded she give the cash back. Franco gave her $2 and ran away. The vehicle owner gave chase, as did two bystanders.
Police said 49-year-old Robert DeRosa of Shelton was acting as lookout while Franco committed the crime. DeRosa allegedly punched one of the bystanders in the face in an attempt to escape.
The trio detained Franco and DeRosa until Shelton police arrived.
Franco was charged with third-degree robbery, third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny.
DeRosa was charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.
The arrests come two days after someone burglarized cars in a commuter lot near exit 13 in Shelton.
Police didn’t say whether the crimes are connected.
