Cable Installer Triggers Shelton Electrical Fire

A worker installing cable television and phone service drilled through the electrical service at a house on Fairlane Drive Thursday, sparking a fire on the home’s exterior wall.

Luckily, no one was injured, Shelton Assistant Chief Nick Verdicchio said.

The 9:30 a.m. fire damaged a section of the house measuring roughly two feet by three feet, Verdicchio said.

“There was no interior damage at all,” he said.

Firefighters contained the fire using extinguishers until United Illuminating cut power to the house.

“Then they went and blasted the remaining fire with water,” Verdiccio said.

Firefighters were not sure which communication company employed the worker.

Three Shelton fire companies responded. Companies 5, 3 and 1 were the initial responders. Company 4 from Pine Rock covered the city while the other firefighters were at the scene.

The fire was at 94 Fairlane Drive, near Walnut Tree Hill Road.
